As we all know, for the past week or so, there has been flash foolds occuring in Singapore after heavy downpours, which caused plenty of damages, such as the losses made by stores on the basement level at Orchard road, fallen trees and many more. Here is an article on one of these flash floods, which took place on June 25: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_545466.html
Although there were no casualities from these flash floods, it still inflicted lots of damages, like the S$6million payout to the shopowners in Orchard road who were affected by the floods. Heavy traffic was caused during peak hours, with visibility very low making driving conditions extremely tricky. This caused many office workers to be late for work, causing their company's productivity to drop for that period. The floods caused alot of inconvenience for workers, shopper alike as all operations stopped during the floods. I feel that these floods, which caused the worst case of flooding in Orchard Road since 1984, is caused by a clogged sewage system, most likely containing debris like fallen leaves or twigs, and maybe litter. But no matter what is the reason, a solution has to be come up with so as to prevent further flooding and inconveniences.

Plunge In World Stocks!
We have just rode the financial storm, which struck the entire world around 18months back. We thought the worst were behind us, and better times lie ahead, at least for a couple of years. But this latest report, seems to again send shock waves throughout the whole world. The report as follows illustrates the latest development in world financial status : http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Money/Story/STIStory_523826.html
In this report, it tells us that the Greek financial debts crisis became global, and many investors see this development as a sign of things to come, possibly another financial crisis worldwide, as illustrated by the quote that "compared Greek insolvency to the financial crisis 18months ago". Also displayed in this report, is that the progress in recovery of worldwide economy has drawn to a halt, and possibly, yet on another decline. In my opinion, the only way everybody, like we commoners, can be ready to combat what might be another financial storm on the horizon, is to scrimp and save whatever we can. Because when a financial crisis hits, we commoners will be heavily affected by it. But still, this is just an analysis, a prediction, so even if it does happen, it might not be as bad as it was projected, or even, it might not happen. So, in summary, save all you can, as it is a good habit to have, but not to read too much into it as it might not be as bad as we thought.

Safety of Sports in School!
Following some unsightly, and unsportmanship acts between ACS(I) and St. Andrews, which resulted in mass chaos and injuries. Also not forgetting, the death of the taekwondo boy, after receiving a kick to his head, which was deemed as "normal" in terms of power of the kick. Hence, after so many injuries and accidents in these contact sports, the MOE has decided to act upon the situation by reviewing school sports safety measures, as shown by this article : http://sg.news.yahoo.com/cna/20100422/tap-922-moe-conduct-safety-review-sports-231650b.html
In my opinion, contact sports are bound to have injuries, if not why elso would they call it contact sports? Only thing we can do, is to promote better sportsmanship, irregardless of whether you are representing your school or nation, and of course, better protection for the participants, for example better gears, which would absorb the impact inflicted by an opponent more effectively. I find that sports is not all about winning, it is the experience of participating in it that makes sports all the more enjoyable. People always say that winners of a particular sports match is the biggest winner of the day, but i feel, that the biggest winner is actually the one who accepts losing gracefully. But losing with grace is not easy, hence, it is important that schools instil their students with a competive mindset, accompanied by a strong sense of sportmanship. I find that one way they could encourage sportsmanship is that after every match or competition, each participant from each team should share a congratulatory handshake with their opponents. Only then, can the beauty of the sport be enhanced. With sportsmanship in place, we viewers can expect lesser violence before/during/after sport matches. What is the use if you are a great player, but lacks sportmanship? As for injuries, i guess it is just part and parcel. Like taekwondo, there is not much of a choice, as it involves kicking, just one misplaced kick could really hurt your opponent really badly. All sports that requires kicking or punching your opponent brings along a huge element of danger, just like all contact sport. When there is contact, there will surely be injuries, but what we can do is to minimize the extent of injuries, or maybe even, reduce the amount of injuries.
